SAN DIEGO -- The Chargers placed defensive tackle Jamal Williams on injured reserve with a triceps injury Saturday, meaning he'll miss the rest of the season.

It's a big loss for the Chargers. Although Williams has a history of knee injuries, the 12-year NFL veteran has been a force in the middle, particularly against the run.
Williams' backup is Ogemdi Nwagbuo, who spent five weeks on the practice squad last season and now is the only defensive tackle remaining on San Diego's roster. To fill Williams' roster spot, the Chargers signed defensive end Andre Coleman from the practice squad.
The Chargers already are without running back LaDainian Tomlinson and center Nick Hardwick for Sunday's home opener against the Baltimore Ravens because both have sprained ankles. Also, backup defensive end Travis Johnson is out with a groin injury.
