Carolina Panthers quarterback Jake Delhomme was pulled after a miserable performance in Sunday's 38-10 season-opening loss to the Philadelphia Eagles left him with 11 turnovers in the past two meaningful games.
But Delhomme will have a chance to redeem himself.

Panthers coach John Fox said after the game that Delhomme will return as the starter next week after throwing four interceptions and losing a fumble in less than three quarters against the Eagles. With Philadelphia leading 38-10, Fox replaced Delhomme with Josh McCown, leading to a loud cheer from the Carolina crowd. Delhomme was 7 of 17 for 73 yards. His fumble was returned for a touchdown.
"Obviously, I think we start back with Jake,â Fox said. âWeâve got to go back and evaluate what happened to us. Without watching the tape, I donât think it was all Jakeâs fault.â
McCown later left with an injury and was replaced by third-stringer Matt Moore. Fox said McCown suffered knee and foot sprains, but the coach didn't have any other information.
Delhomme said he wasn't surprised that Fox made the change.
âNo, I mean, I wasnât getting anything going for us,â Delhomme said. âIt was frustrating. It started on the first drive, and it went downhill from there. ⦠Iâm not blaming anyone. It just wasnât good.â
Delhomme threw five interceptions and lost a fumble in Carolina's 33-13 playoff loss to Arizona in January. Three months later, he received a five-year, $42.5 million contract extension that included $20 million in guaranteed money.
