FOXBOROUGH, Mass. -- Veteran long snapper Nathan Hodel has signed with the New England Patriots. Terms of the deal weren't disclosed.
The move fills a vacancy created when Lonie Paxton signed with the Denver Broncos as a free agent after spending the past nine seasons as the Patriots' long snapper.
Hodel, 31, has spent the past eight seasons with the Arizona Cardinals. He played in 112 consecutive contests from 2002 to 2008, and in 2005, he was the long snapper on each of Neil Rackersâ NFL-record 40 successful field-goal attempts. Hodel also was the long snapper when Rackers tied an NFL record with three field goals of 50 yards or longer on Oct. 24, 2004.
