GREEN BAY, Wis. -- Special-teams coordinator Mike Stock is leaving the Green Bay Packers after his unit's problems figured in a 6-10 season and a failure to make the playoffs.
The Packers announced Friday that Stock, 69, is retiring from professional coaching. Stock told the Green Bay Press-Gazette last week that if it were up to him, he would return for a fourth season with the Packers.
But in a statement released by the team, Stock said that after "thinking further about the commitment needed for another season and discussing it with my family, ultimately I decided this was the best decision for us."
Stock is the first member of the coaching staff to leave since the Packers finished the season with a victory over the winless Detroit Lions, ending a five-game losing streak that took Green Bay out of playoff contention.
