The Oakland Raiders slapped the exclusive franchise tag on cornerback Nnamdi Asomugha on Wednesday.
Asomugha became the first players since Colts defensive end Dwight Freeney last year to be slapped with the exclusive franchise tag.
It carries a $9.8 million price tag but also prevents Asomugha from even talking to any other teams. Other players hit with the non-exclusive franchise tag can. Asomugha cannot. He is now off the market, officially.
Asomugha, who just finished his fifth year in the league, had just one interception in 2007 but finished the 2006 season with eight interceptions.
