CINCINNATI -- No. 2 quarterback Doug Johnson was released Saturday by the Cincinnati Bengals, who replaced him by getting Ryan Fitzpatrick from the St. Louis Rams for a conditional draft pick. Johnson was dumped a day after he threw a pair of interceptions in a 14-6 preseason loss to Indianapolis. More ...

Browns dump Dorsey; CB Baxter makes team
BEREA, Ohio -- Cornerback Gary Baxter made the roster and gets to continue his attempt to make history and return from a pair of torn patellar tendons suffered Oct. 22 in a game vs. Denver.

Backup quarterback Ken Dorsey wasn't as fortunate, losing out to Derek Anderson, as the team's third quarterback on the roster. Dorsey was a valuable mentor to rookie Brady Quinn during the preseason. More ...

Ravens keep Heisman Trophy winner
OWINGS MILLS, Md. -- Heisman Trophy winner Troy Smith made the Baltimore Ravens' final roster Saturday as the team's third-string quarterback.

Steelers get Rossum
PITTSBURGH -- The Steelers today released 23 players and made a trade with the Atlanta Falcons in order to trim their roster to the NFL's league minimum of 53 players.

Additionally, the Steelers traded a 2008 conditional draft pick to the Atlanta Falcons for return specialist/cornerback Allen Rossum. Rossum, a 2005 Pro Bowl selection as a special teams returner, holds the Falcons record for career punt return yards (1,723), career kickoff return yards (5,489) and career punt returns for touchdowns (2). Texans release McCardell, Lundy
HOUSTON -- The Houston Texans released 20 players on Friday, including Keenan McCardell, Chad Stanley, the only punter in franchise history, and quarterback Jared Zabransky, who helped lead Boise State to a thrilling 43-42 overtime win over Oklahoma in the 2007 Fiesta Bowl.

The Texans also released second-year running back Wali Lundy, their starter a year ago, and veteran defensive backs Tyrone Poole and Dexter McCleon. More ...

Chargers release 15, place Race on IR
SAN DIEGO -- The Chargers’ 53-man roster is settled after the club waived 15 players, including three veterans Saturday, and placed rookie running back Germaine Race on "Reserve-Injured."

Those informed of their release Saturday included safety Tra Battle, center Mark Bihl, running back Eldra Buckley, wide receivers Greg Camarillo and Mark Simmons, defensive ends Andre Coleman, Keith Grennan and Derreck Robinson, safety Bhawoh Jue, offensive tackles Cory Lekkerkerker and Tony Pape, defensive tackle Louis Leonard and linebackers Antwan Applewhite, Nick Roach and Jyles Tucker. Chiefs Place Holmes on NFI
Chiefs President Carl Peterson announced on Saturday that the club has made 21 transactions in order to comply with today’s NFL mandatory roster cutdown to 53 players.

IRVING, Texas -- Veteran cornerback Aaron Glenn's contract was by the Dallas Cowboys, who also put kicker Martin Gramatica on injured reserve.

The Cowboys also cut 20 other players, including rookie quarterbacks Matt Moore and Richard Bartel, to get their roster to the mandatory 53 players. All eight players drafted in April made the team, including rookie kicker Nick Folk. More ...

LAKE FOREST, Ill. -- The Bears on Saturday reached the NFL’s mandatory 53-man roster limit by cutting 19 players and placing second-round draft pick Dan Bazuin and fullback Quadtrine Hill on injured reserve.

Chicago waived the following players: Running back Josh Allen, wide receivers David Ball and Drisan James, defensive ends Copeland Bryan and Chris Frome, defensive tackles Tory Collins and Antonio Garay, safety Tyler Everett, cornerbacks Greg Fassitt and Tim Mixon, quarterback Chris Leak, tackle Mark LeVoir, tight ends Fontel Mines and Brett Pierce, guard Anthony Oakley, guard Tyler Reed, safety Andrew Shanle and linebacker Danny Verdun Wheeler. GREEN BAY, Wis. -- The Green Bay Packers released 20 players, placed three on injured reserve and traded for another player Saturday.

The Packers acquired running back Ryan Grant from the New York Giants for an undisclosed future draft pick. Grant, a graduate of Notre Dame, spent the 2005 season on the Giants' practice squad and the 2006 season on injured reserve. More ...

SEATTLE -- The Seattle Seahawks placed Marcus Tubbs on injured reserve Saturday, meaning they have lost the hard-luck defensive tackle for the season.
