Charles Woodson still out for Green Bay Packers

The Green Bay Packers will play the Chicago Bears this week without safety Charles Woodson, who already has missed six games because of a broken collarbone. Packers coach Mike McCarthy made the announcement during his news conference Wednesday.

McCarthy said Woodson was "frustrated" that he won't be cleared to take part in the latest chapter of the NFL's oldest rivalry.

"He's ready to play, but doctors feel we're going to hold him out of the game," said McCarthy, according to the Green Bay Press-Gazette's Mike Vandermause.

The Packers will have to rely on young defensive backs to hold up their secondary for at least another week. NFL Defensive Rookie of the Year candidate Casey Hayward, along with M.D. Jennings, Davon House and Jarron McMillian, will try to ground the Bears' passing game Sunday.

The Packers are correct in being cautious with Woodson. They'd love to have him against the Bears, but they'd rather have him healthy for the playoff run. A setback could end Woodson's season.
