Aldon Smith a passenger in serious weekend car crash

San Francisco 49ers linebacker Aldon Smith played every defensive snap against the Detroit Lions on Sunday night with stitches above his eye.

Smith was cut during a serious car accident near his home Friday night, according to The Sacramento Bee. Alcohol was not involved.

Smith was a passenger in a car that swerved to avoid a deer in Santa Clara County. The BMW wound up on its side and the driver was taken to San Jose Regional Medical Center with a "broken back," the Bee's Matt Barrows reported.

Smith had seven tackles and a sack against the Lions.
