Andrew Luck will sign by Colts camp, Jim Irsay says

On the same day the Washington Redskins signed No. 2 overall draft pick Robert Griffin III to a fully guaranteed four-year contract without offsets, Indianapolis Colts owner Jim Irsay reiterated there is "no doubt" that No. 1 selection Andrew Luckwill be signed in time for training camp.

"Anybody who's done negotiations knows that you can get close and then remain close for a long period of time," Irsay said Wednesday, according to the Indianapolis Star. "You know, close doesn't always mean that it's going to get done the next day. But ... he'll be in camp, there is no question that he'll be signed in time."

Dating back to June 23, Irsay has made previous statements, mostly on Twitter, that a deal with Luck was close or one would be done in time for training camp. Irsay made a similar statement July 8, when camp was exactly three weeks away, and repeated that again last Friday.

Luck's four-year contract is expected to be worth around $24 million and include a $14.5 million signing bonus, plus a team-held option for a fifth season. Irsay said the two sides plan to continue their discussions.

"We'll be talking this week, and we are talking, and there's no question that he'll be signed for the beginning of training camp and ready to go," Irsay said. "No doubt about it. We've been close, and I think we'll be able to accomplish the final couple details, and it's going to get done. No doubt about it."
