Hakeem Nicks undergoes successful foot surgery

New York Giants receiver Hakeem Nicks underwent successful surgery on his right foot on Friday, the New York Post reported.

Renowned specialist Dr. Robert Anderson performed the operation in Charlotte, N.C., inserting a screw into the wideout's foot to hasten the healing process. Nicks broke the fifth metatarsal in the foot while running a route during Thursday's morning practice session.

Team doctors have set a 12-week recovery timeline, which would sideline Nicks through most of training camp. Peter Schaffer, his agent, told the Post "we will know more next week" about Nicks' return.

Nicks was New York's second-leading receiver last season, but the Giantscan compete without him if they're forced to. The way we see it, losing Nicks in May is salvageable; he will play this season. Rueben Randle might have to step into a larger role earlier on, but that will only hasten the rookie's progress. The Giants are old hands at working through injuries and this isn't a shallow group of wideouts.
