Robert Griffin III joked with Jay Leno on "The Tonight Show" on Thursday night, showing off some of his favorite socks and teasing President Obama about a one-on-one game of basketball.
But Griffin opened by saluting the military, telling how both his parents served in the armed forces -- his mother for 13 years his father for 21.

The Washington Redskins rookie got most serious when discussing his father's service.
"He got stop-lossed. It was on my birthday -- I was in the eighth grade; it was the worst birthday I ever had. They woke me up at six in the morning, told me he was going overseas. We didn't know if he was going to come back. ... He went to Iraq, served on the front lines there, and came back six months later, they told him he had to (return) in two weeks."
RG3 showed off some distinctive socks, including the ones he wore when he won the Heisman Trophy ("the Supermans", Griffin called them) and the Cookie Monster socks ("we were hungry for victory").
Griffin even teased Obama, a noted sports fan.
"I have met him ... I challenged him to a game of basketball, but he told me he wouldn't play me. He's not afraid or anything -- I did not say that," Griffin said to the audience's laughter.
