The Houston Texans agreed to terms with Beck on Wednesday, according to the Houston Chronicle. Beck will presumably compete for the No. 3 quarterback role with undrafted rookie Case Keenum behind starter Matt Schaub and backup T.J. Yates.
The Chronicle reported that it was a one-year deal worth $700,000.
A source with knowledge of the situation later confirmed that Beck will join the Texans, NFL Network insider Jason La Canfora reported Wednesday.
It's a perfect fit for Beck because coach Gary Kubiak essentially runs the same offense as his former mentor Mike Shanahan. While Beck's run in Washington didn't work out, Shanahan must have given him a good reference.Â
Redskins offensive coordinator Kyle Shanahan -- who was last in Houston -- once revealed that he had graded Beck as the best quarterback in the 2007 draft. That positive assessment of Beck was apparently shared by others in the Texans organization. Or at least they liked Beck enough to give him a chance.
That's all John Beck is looking for.
