Jordan Jefferson gets a shot with Buccaneers

Jordan Jefferson is getting his chance to join the Tampa Bay Buccaneers' quarterback fray.

Jefferson will have a free-agent tryout with the Bucs on Monday, his agent, Patrick Lawlor told NFL Network and NFL.com. LSU sports information director Michael Bonnette tweeted that Jefferson will likely sign with Tampa Bay.

The Bucs' QB depth chart currently includes Josh Freeman, Dan Orlovsky and Brett Ratliff. Zach Collaros of Cincinnati signed a free-agent deal on Monday.

You probably last saw Jefferson as the LSU quarterback in the national championship game against Alabama. His performance that night (11-of-17, 53 yards, one interception) warranted not just a scarlet letter, but an entire sentence, as in, "Hey everybody, clearly my showing against this group of future NFL defenders is irrefutable proof I'm not an pro-caliber quarterback."

Jefferson got an invite to the combine anyway, though he wasn't selected in any of the seven rounds of the draft. A strong but erratic thrower, he's coming off a season in which he split snaps with Jarrett Lee.

In the NFL.com news room, descriptions of Jefferson range from "a poor man's Terrelle Pryor" to "a poor man's JaMarcus Russell." Very harsh guys.
