Browns' GM Heckert reportedly underwent serious surgery

Cleveland Browns general manager Tom Heckert underwent a serious surgery that has prevented him from attending the 2012 NFL Combine in Indianapolis, according to The Plain Dealer reported, which cited a reported by the team's flagship station, WTAM-AM.

The station said Heckert, 44, is expected to fully recover.

The Browns did not elaborate on the nature of Heckert's illness but said he is recovering.

"Tom's personal medical issues are his private affair and not for the club to comment on," team spokesman Neal Gulkis said. "As we said yesterday, he's doing fine."

Heckert was named general manger of the Browns in January 2010 after holding the same position with the Philadelphia Eagles.
