Set to become an unrestricted free agent next month, Colts wide receiver Reggie Wayne would prefer to stay in Indianapolis.
But Wayne, who has played his entire 11-year career with the Colts, is still waiting for his phone to ring to talk about a new contract. That provides ample time to speculate where exactly Wayne might play.
Wayne is set to become a free agent amid the team's rebuilding efforts, and along with veterans Peyton Manning and Jeff Saturday, might not be back with the team next season. Wayne, 33, suffered in Manning's absence last season, posting his fewest catches (75), yards (960) and touchdowns (four) since 2003.
As for Wayne's future, NFL Network analyst Willie McGinest told the Boston Herald that the receiver agreed with his suggestion that the New England Patriots would be a perfect team for his skill-set. When asked if he would like to play for the Patriots, McGinest told The Herald that Wayne replied, "Who wouldn't want to play there?"
For his part, Patriots coach Bill Belichick has raved about Wayne in the past, telling The Boston Globe back in 2009 that he was the best receiver his team faces each season.
Wayne, however, continues his wait. He told NFL Network two weeks ago he had yet to hear from the Colts, which he told ESPN last week was still the case.
"I have not heard anything as far as me being back," Wayne told NFL Network. "They've got a lot of tough decisions to make. My phone is working, I do know that."
