Niners kicker Akers' 41st field goal breaks NFL season record

San Francisco 49ers kicker David Akers set the NFL record for most field goals in one season with his 41st, then further distanced himself with another field goal minutes later in Saturday's 19-17 victory over the Seattle Seahawks.

Akers made a 44-yard field goal early in the fourth quarter for No. 41. It was his third made field goal of the game after he earlier connected from 53 and 29 yards. Akers then added another kick -- this one from 39-yards out -- with 3:01 left in the game to win the game for the 49ers.

Akers missed a 52-yard attempt in the first quarter, just his seventh missed kick of the season. For the year, Akers is 42 of 49 on field-goal attempts.

Neil Rackers held the previous record with 40 made field goals, set in the 2005 season while playing for the Arizona Cardinals.
