Jets safety Leonhard will have MRI exam after knee injury

The latest injury for New York Jets safety Jim Leonhard has a deja-vu feeling to it.

Leonhard left Sunday's 37-10 win over the Kansas City Chiefs with a right knee injury, which the New York Daily News reports will end his season, according to sources. Leonhard will undergo an MRI exam on Monday, according to the report.

Leonhard was helped to the sideline with a right knee injury during the second quarter and then carted into the locker room. He was injured after making an interception and being tackled by Chiefs receiver Steve Breaston. Jets coach Rex Ryan said was hopeful after the game, but admitted he had not received an update from doctors.

"I'm hopeful it's not that bad, but it's never good when you need help coming off (the field)," Ryan said.

In 2010, Leonhard broke his right leg in a collision with teammate Patrick Turner during practice in early December and missed the remainder of the season.

But Jets cornerback Darrelle Revis mentioned he "did hear something on the sideline that (Leonhard) might be out for the season. That's almost like repeating last season again."

Revis said Sunday he had not spoken with Leonhard nor heard any official word on the injury.

"Injuries happen throughout the season," Revis said. "It's just a weird moment of this repeating again and Jim maybe out again."
