Raiders to work out veteran Bouman as part of QB search

The Oakland Raiders are hunting for a quarterback.

NFL Network insider Jason La Canfora cited league sources Monday in reporting that 39-year-old free agent Todd Bouman will be among the quarterbacks working out for the Raiders this week. The team's search comes on the heels of the broken collarbone suffered by starter Jason Campbell, who said he could be back before the end of the season.

The Raiders have contacted several other quarterbacks -- Trent Edwards, David Garrard and Josh McCown among them -- on a preliminary basis, but none of them will work out for the team for various reasons, league sources told La Canfora. But Bouman, who played for Raiders coach Hue Jackson in Baltimore, will audition.

Garrard is out of the mix because of a herniated disc in his back that will require surgery and is expected to sideline him for four to six weeks.

The Raidersalso have interest in acquiring Carson Palmer ahead of Tuesday's trading deadline, but league sources indicated to La Canfora the team remains doubtful the Cincinnati Bengals will trade their veteran quarterback.

The Raiders also spoke with veteran Todd Collins -- who has deep ties to Raiders offensive coordinator Al Saunders -- but Collins opted not to accept an invite to work out there and is planning to retire, a league source told La Canfora.

In the short term, the Raiders likely have no choice but to move forward with Kyle Boller in the starting role. But with untested rookie Terrelle Pryor as the only other quarterback on the roster, they're leaving no stone unturned in finding help until Campbell returns.
