Renewed discussions between the Miami Dolphins and David Garrard on Tuesday didn't result in a deal, according to league sources, and the free-agent quarterback will continue to pursue other options.
The Dolphins' pursuit of Jake Delhomme was fruitless, too, sources said.
The team also worked out Brodie Croyle and Trent Edwards on Tuesday, but no deal is expected with either quarterback, according to league sources. Miami explored options of signing Croyle after his workout Tuesday, but the sides couldn't come to an agreement. The situation was similar with Garrard and Delhomme.
Few quarterbacks with starting experience remain on the open market. Daunte Culpepper and Marc Bulger are among the free agents who have experienced some success as starters, although Bulger retired this summer.
Miami is going through all this because starter Chad Henne separated his left, non-throwing shoulder during Sunday's loss to the San Diego Chargers, and the team is awaiting word of a second opinion Tuesday that could dictate the quarterback's availability for the rest of the season, a team source told NFL.com reporter Jeff Darlington. The Dolphins, who have a bye this week, are preparing to be without Henne for a minimum of three weeks and possibly all season, sources said.
The Dolphins' current backup is Matt Moore, who completed 17 of 26 passes for 167 yards in relief of Henne on Sunday but had several passes dropped. Moore started five games for the Carolina Panthers last season, going 1-4.
