Jaguars TE Lewis sits out practice with calf strain

Jacksonville Jaguars tight end Marcedes Lewis should know later this week whether he will be able to play Sunday against the New York Jets.

Lewis injured his right calf in Sunday's opener against Tennessee. He initially thought it was a cramp and got intravenous fluids before determining it was a strained muscle. He sat out practice Wednesday and probably will do the same Thursday.

Lewis said his calf is "getting exponentially better every day," and he plans to test out the injury Friday.

If he can run without pain, he should be able to play against the Jets.

Lewis made the Pro Bowl last season and knows the Jaguars need him.

"When I'm at my best, I give our team a better shot at winning," Lewis said. "That's why it's annoying and frustrating."
