NFC North: Packers add weapons; Lions keep building D-line

Charles Davis and I shared duties on "NFL Draft Review" on NFL Network, so I wanted to make sure I gave you my thoughts on the rest of the teams I didn't cover on the show.

The Packers had 11 overall picks. With their first-rounder, they took a tackle, Derek Sherrod, who I think can be a left tackle and push Chad Clifton, who is getting up there in years. Because they took Brian Bulaga a year ago at right tackle, the Packers could have a couple of bookends once Sherrod is able to step in.

I love Randall Cobb, a wide receiver from Kentucky, in the second round. Donald Driver is 36, and James Jones is a potential free agent. Cobb doesn't do any one thing great, but he does everything extremely well. I really like his versatility.

Then there's a running back who not a lot of people know a lot about -- Alex Green from Hawaii -- who the Packers took in the third round. This kid might have the best hands of any running back in the draft. It will be interesting to see if he can pick up the pass protection and if he can be a valuable guy on third down.

The Lions had just five picks, but they really got some talented football players. Nick Fairley, obviously, fell to them at No. 13. He's a gifted player with a questionable motor. What he has going for him is that the infrastructure of the Lions' locker room is getting more mature, and he has great examples standing next to him on the defensive line in Ndamukong Suh and Kyle Vanden Bosch. Both tremendous examples of hard workers.

Titus Young, the first of two second-round picks, is what I call him a poor man's DeSean Jackson. Some off-the-field stuff, some work-ethic stuff, but when you just watch him run routes and get in and out of breaks, he probably does that as well as any wide receiver in the draft. His acceleration is tremendous, and he can help in the return game.

At the end of the second round, the Lions got Mikel Leshoure, a running back from Illinois. A lot of people really liked him, and the Lions figure they can pair him with Jahvid Best since Kevin Smith had trouble staying healthy. I wasn't as high on Leshoure as a lot of people, but he's a big back with really good feet. I just need to see him play at a continually high level.
