Manusky reportedly close to landing Chargers' DC position

The Chargers plan to spend a second day interviewing San Francisco 49ers defensive coordinator Greg Manusky, and it appears likely he'll be hired for the same position on coach Norv Turner's staff, *The San Diego Union-Tribune* reported.

The Chargers have an opening after defensive coordinator Ron Rivera was hired as the Carolina Panthers' coach Tuesday. The Chargers' defense ranked No. 1 in yards allowed this season.

Manusky also interviewed for the Panthers' head-coaching job.

Manusky, who was a linebackers coach for the Chargers from 2002 to 2006, has had a busy week. He interviewed with the Arizona Cardinals on Tuesday and the Dallas Cowboys on Wednesday for their defensive coordinator positions. He isn't expected to be retained by new 49ers coach Jim Harbaugh.

Current Chargers linebackers coach John Pagano and defensive backs coach Steve Wilks had sit-downs with Turner this week, The Union-Tribune reported. Pagano has been on the Chargers' staff since 2002, and Wilks has been in San Diego the past two seasons.
