Chiefs add ex-Patriot Gutierrez to mix at QB, waive Martin

RIVER FALLS, Wis. -- The Kansas City Chiefs have claimed quarterback Matt Gutierrez off waivers from the New England Patriots.

Height: 6-4

Weight: 230

Experience: 2

College: Idaho State

Gutierrez appeared in five games during two seasons with the Patriots, completing his only pass attempt for 15 yards. He signed his contract with the Chiefs on Thursday and joined the team for practice.

An undrafted free agent out of Idaho State in 2007, Gutierrez will compete with Brodie Croyle and Tyler Thigpen as the backups to starter Matt Cassel in Kansas City.

The Chiefs released Ingle Martin on Wednesday to make room for Gutierrez.
