That Helps No One Week 12: Griffin flies in fantasy

On any given NFL weekend, many different players score touchdowns. Most of them are your standard fantasy football superstars, owned in every league. But others come out of nowhere to vulture touchdowns or beat a third-string cornerback repeatedly for a career-day. In fantasy, these are our That Helps No One champions. The players whose success leads to the imminent demise of countless fantasy teams. All season long, we'll be tracking and crowning a That Helps No One winner each week on NFL Fantasy LIVE. Below are the top candidates for Week 12.

This was supposed to be the game where DeAndre Hopkins went absolutely nuts in fantasy. He'd torched good defenses in the weeks leading up to a showdown with the porous Saints secondary. So naturally, the fantasy gods laughed in our faces and gave touchdowns to Griffin and Cecil Shorts. Sigh.

The Jets thumped the Dolphins with five touchdowns, and Eric Decker, Chris Ivory and Brandon Marshall all got in on the scoring bonanza. Still, we're greedy in fantasy, and would have liked Smith's first career touchdown to come at a different time. I'm sure Decker and Ivory owners would have liked that one to be TD No. 2 for their fantasy teams instead.

Craig Stevens sounds like he's a middle manager at an accounting firm in Iowa, not a tight end in the National Football League. Nice catch, though, Craig (yes, he and I are on a first name basis).

Backup wide receivers catching meaningless touchdowns in garbage time? Yep, that's a surefire That Helps No One contender, folks. Welcome to the big leagues, Nick Williams!

Fullback touchdowns are among the worst in fantasy football. At least this one helped Marcus Mariota owners, as Fowler caught his touchdown.

Inman is owned in just 0.2 percent of NFL.com fantasy leagues. If that's not the definition of helping no one, I don't know what is.

It's not as if the 49ers offense is a bountiful well of fantasy points in general, but it'd have been great if old McDonald's touchdown could have gone to Anquan Boldin or Shaun Draughn, players some owners had to start in desperation plays. (Yes, this is exactly what I wrote last week and yes, it still applies here.)
