On any given NFL weekend, many different players score touchdowns. Most of them are your standard fantasy football superstars, owned in every league. Or at least the sleepers jamokes like us have been hyping all week (cough, Dion Lewis, cough). But others come out of nowhere to vulture touchdowns or beat a third-string cornerback repeatedly for a career-day. In fantasy, these are our That Helps No One champions. The players whose success leads to the imminent demise of countless fantasy teams. All season long, we'll be tracking and crowning a That Helps No One winner each week on NFL Fantasy LIVE. Below are the top candidates for Week 3.
Andre Holmes & Seth Roberts, WRs, Oakland Raiders
The Raiders offense has been humming with a healthy Derek Carr back under center, and both Amari Cooper and Michael Crabtree went over 100 yards last week. So naturally, this week it was Andre Holmes and Seth Roberts who found their way into the end zone. Cooper at least went over 100 yards again, but man, wouldn't a touchdown have been nice?
Many owners bought into the Doug Martin hype train this offseason, and were encouraged by how well he ran in the first two weeks. They were just hoping he'd find a way into the end zone to justify their faith. Nope. Instead it was Charles Sims who hit pay-dirt on a nice little screen pass against the Texans. Of course.
Jones might have landed on the That Helps No One radar for two weeks in a row, but he's going to start helping owners out soon once they pick him up off of waivers. However, it sure would have been nice if Jones' touchdown had gone the way of, oh, I don't know, maybe Tyler Eifert? Since the talented tight end had a 0/0/0 stat line on Sunday. Yep, that touchdown would have made his outing just a bit better. Doh.
The Titans' backfield is a mess. In Week 1 it was Bishop Sankey with the career day. Week 2 was Dexter McCluster's turn, and Week 3 it was Andrews' shot at fantasy glory. Maybe he maintains his "starter" status. Maybe in Week 4 it's Terrance West. Who knows? All we know now is that this is a backfield that will likely lead to a wealth of That Helps No One points in the near future.
Line has found a home near the goal line, vulturing two touchdowns already in three weeks from Adrian Peterson. Now, Peterson did find the end zone twice on Sunday, but who are we kidding, this is fantasy football! We want all the points we can get, dang it. Adding to the misery was that Line's vultured score also robbed Kyle Rudolph and Mike Wallace of a potential red-zone look.
While Mark Ingram was finally able to find the end zone, it would have been nice to see him get in again (or Brandin Cooks, or C.J. Spiller), but instead, it was Khiry Robinson who made the trip into the painted area. Sigh. As if this Saints offense wasn't already frustrating enough. Oh well.
