Sam Bradford injury put focus again on Zac Stacy

Bad news has once again hit the St. Louis Rams offense. For the second time in as many seasons, Rams quarterback Sam Braford has suffered a torn ACL.

With offensive coordinator Brian Schottenheimer starting his third season pulling the strings on St. Louis' attack, the hope was that a healthy Bradford could work with a deep, if unsettled, corps of receivers to boost the team's passing scheme. Now the team is forced to scramble at the quarterback position. Shaun Hill is second on the team's depth chart, but it's worth considering whether the Rams will make a trade to fill its starting position.

This had been considered a make-or-break year for Bradford, who has struggled in his first four seasons with a combination of injuries and coaching instability. With the quarterback expected to miss the entire season, that would make 25 missed games dating back to last season.

For now, this puts the onus back on Zac Stacy to carry a bigger load for the offense. A greater emphasis on the passing game was likely to decrease the number of touches Stacy earned this year. But with upheaval at quarterback, St. Louis could be forced to lean on its running back once again. It's not unthinkable to see Stacy end the season with nearly 300 carries.
