Weekly rankings: Lions ready to roar in Week 3

Week 2 is now officially in the books and we look forward to Week 3. Some of us are trying to put some bad losses behind us, so let's get cracking on the way-too-soon rankings for Week 3. As a reminder, this is a first-look at the rankings, and these will be constantly updated over the coming week. Be sure to continue to check back on for the latest possible updates.

1. Peyton Manning
2. Aaron Rodgers
3. Drew Brees
4. Matthew Stafford
5. Russell Wilson
6. Colin Kaepernick
7. Tom Brady
8. Matt Ryan
9. Andrew Luck
10. Tony Romo
11. Cam Newton
12. Robert Griffin III
13. Matt Schaub
14. Sam Bradford
15. Alex Smith
16. Michael Vick
17. Jay Cutler
18. Carson Palmer
19. Eli Manning
20. Philip Rivers
21. Ryan Tannehill
22. Andy Dalton
23. Joe Flacco
24. Jake Locker

* Matthew Stafford has a great matchup this week against the Redskins, who haven't been able to stop anybody through the air. This is going to be a huge game for Stafford, Calvin Johnson and Reggie Bush.

* Russell Wilson has been an efficient quarterback, but he hasn't been a standout fantasy option. But he will have a huge game against the Jaguars. Unless this is Pete Carroll's pro version of Oregon State.

* At some point you can't ignore the huge games Sam Bradford has put up very early in the season and put him into your lineup. Cam Newton is officially on notice.

* Jake Locker has a weird, strangely good matchup. Not sure you play him, but you never know who might need a viable quarterback.

Running backs

1. Adrian Peterson
2. LeSean McCoy
3. Jamaal Charles
4. Marshawn Lynch
5. Alfred Morris
6. Trent Richardson
7. Doug Martin
8. Arian Foster
9. Matt Forte
10. Reggie Bush
11. Ray Rice
12. C.J. Spiller
13. Steven Jackson
14. Knowshon Moreno
15. Darren McFadden
16. Frank Gore
17. Chris Johnson
18. Rashard Mendenhall
19. Eddie Lacy
20. DeMarco Murray
21. Stevan Ridley
22. Lamar Miller
23. Daryl Richardson
24. Ahmad Bradshaw
25. DeAngelo Williams
26. Giovani Bernard
27. Darren Sproles
28. Chris Ivory
29. Ryan Mathews
30. Ben Tate
31. David Wilson
32. Joique Bell
33. Fred Jackson
34. Maurice Jones-Drew
35. Bryce Brown
36. BenJarvus Green-Ellis
37. Bernard Pierce
38. Bilal Powell
39. Da'Rel Scott
40. Montee Ball

* Rashard Mendenhall had a nice Week 2 and I like the matchup this week against the Saints.

* Giovani Bernard finally got into the end zone against the Steelers in Week 2. At some point, we will talk about BenJarvus Green-Ellis stealing touchdowns from him.

* MJD would rank this low even if he was healthy. He's not going to have a great game against the Seahawks. Not happening.

* Knowshon Moreno, friends. He's got to be the No. 1 guy, right? How crazy is it that the Manning Bowl basically came down to two Moreno touchdowns and a kickoff return?

Wide receivers

1. Calvin Johnson

30. Roddy White
31. Eric Decker
32. DeAndre Hopkins
33. Chris Givens
34. James Jones
35. Kenbrell Thompkins
36. Miles Austin
37. Greg Jennings
38. Michael Floyd
39. Cecil Shorts
40. Mike Williams

53. Rueben Randle
54. Denarius Moore
55. Golden Tate
56. Kenny Britt
57. Donnie Avery
58. Leonard Hankerson
59. Kenny Stills
60. Rod Streater

* Calvin Johnson is the sure-fire No. 1 receiver in most weeks. But you have to throw in the best possible matchup, too? I'm worried it's almost too good. Like one of those weeks where you expect about 60 points, but come away with just four.

* Tavon Austin was called one of the more exciting players to enter the NFL in some time. You didn't see much of the electricity in his two touchdown receptions against the Falcons. But look at the matchup against the Cowboys. That's pretty nice.

* Jordy Nelson was drafted as a three in a lot of leagues. Well, at least I scored him as a three in our Experts League. He's an automatic starter now.

Tight ends

1. Jimmy Graham
2. Rob Gronkowski
3. Jordan Cameron
4. Vernon Davis
5. Jason Witten
6. Tony Gonzalez
7. Julius Thomas
8. Greg Olsen
9. Jermichael Finley
10. Owen Daniels
11. Jared Cook
12. Kyle Rudolph
13. Martellus Bennett
14. Brandon Myers
15. Coby Fleener
16. Kellen Winslow
17. Tyler Eifert
18. Antonio Gates
19. Jermaine Gresham
20. Brandon Pettigrew

* I make no qualms that this is a way-too-soon look at the rankings. So call it wishful thinking for Rob Gronkowski this week. I have no inside knowledge.

* Jordan Cameron has been great the first two weeks. Now he will get more space with Josh Gordon back for the Cleveland Browns.

1. Sebastian Janikowski
2. Stephen Gostkowski
3. Blair Walsh
4. Dan Bailey
5. Matt Prater
6. Garrett Hartley
7. Caleb Sturgis
8. Robbie Gould
9. Alex Henery
10. Josh Brown
11. Greg Zuerlein
12. David Akers
13. Phil Dawson
14. Rob Bironas
15. Steven Hauschka
16. Jay Feely
17. Mason Crosby
18. Billy Cundiff
19. Nick Novak
20. Dan Carpenter

* I stopped paying attention after Seabass. Sorry.

1. Seattle Seahawks
2. Denver Broncos
3. Chicago Bears
4. Minnesota Vikings
5. New England Patriots
6. Tennessee Titans
7. Buffalo Bills
8. Houston Texans
9. Tampa Bay Buccaneers
10. Dallas Cowboys
11. Kansas City Chiefs
12. Cincinnati Bengals
13. San Francisco 49ers
14. Detroit Lions
15. Carolina Panthers
16. Cleveland Browns
17. Arizona Cardinals
18. New Orleans Saints
19. Atlanta Falcons
20. Miami Dolphins

* Who is playing the Jaguars and who is playing the Raiders? Awesome, it's the Seahawks and Broncos; two defenses you're already playing this week. Well, I like the Titans this week against the Chargers. This unit is much improved. They gave Houston fits, and the Texans need overtime to put up solid fantasy points. And the Bills play the Jets, so there is that, too.

Did you know that Adam Rank won last year's Expert's League title? Oh that's right, it's like the only thing he ever talks about. Well congratulations, Rank. You finally did something. What have you done for us lately? Let's worry about 2013 and stop living in the past. Typical Lakers fan, am I right?
