Torry Holt might have stole the show in our NFL Network draft

The NFL Network Fantasy League has an AFL-like rival and we held our draft on August 29. The contestants (in order of drafting were) Jay Glazer, Dave Dameshek, Fran Charles, Rank, Andrew Siciliano, Paul Burmeister, Lindsay Soto, Willie McGinest, Brian Baldinger, Jamie Dukes, Torry Holt, and Jim Mora (the younger). What is interesting to note here (and I did not before drafting) is that you only start a pair of receivers and a flex spot. Something that will burn me later. Here are the results.

10.
Dukes Darren McFadden, RB, Raiders
11.
11.
Holt Andre Johnson, WR, Texans
12.
12.
Mora Michael Vick, QB, Eagles

Rank's take: The real bummer is that there are not the same amount of dopes that were in the "Expert's League," so you do not get guys going where they should not -- although Siciliano taking Rodgers fifth is kind of a suprise, as was Chris Johnson falling down to No. 7. But hard to fault people for passing on him, I certainly did for Charles. Good round, people.

Charles Tom Brady, QB, Patriots

23.
Dameshek Mike Wallace, WR, Steelers
12.
24.
Glazer Steven Jackson, RB, St. Louis FC

Rank's take: Again, another quality round of drafting here with no real surprises. Siciliano actually made a good pick here with Nicks. Thankfully Eli Manning's interceptions will not cost him any points there. I got Fitzgerald, which I feel pretty confident about. Charles and Fitz to start the draft, I like that.

10.
34.
Dukes Tony Romo, QB, Cowboys
11.
35.
Holt Felix Jones, RB, Cowboys
12.
36.
Mora Dwayne Bowe, WR, Chiefs

Rank's take: This is where the wheels have fallen off for Dameshek and Charles. Greene is all promise, and he has failed to deliver - but you can afford that when you have Arian Foster as your No. 1 running back. Wayne's value can take a huge hit if Manning misses much time. Really, Kerry Collins? Holt has a pretty interesting scenario, as he has two awesome receivers, but he is really putting a lot of faith in Jones at RB. Well, at least he and Jerry Jones will have that in common, but I don't like Jerry's track record. BTW, I snagged Blount as my No. 2 running back -- loving that.

46.
Charles Beanie Wells, RB, Cardinals
11.
47.
Dameshek Mark Ingram, RB, Saints
12.
48.
Glazer Marques Colston, WR, Saints

Rank's take: Well here is the deal, I hate doing online drafts. I understand that for many of you, being away from friends and family, it is unavoidable. But why are the majority of the NFL Total Access and Fantasy Live crews sitting around their cubicles or offices doing this draft instead of doing it in person? And so when you are deciding between Beanie Wells and Matt Schaub, you end up being stuck with Wes Welker because you let the time run out and he was autopicked for you. That seems fair. My team is doomed because of that. Worst pick of the draft, by far. And it is my fault. Oh well, there is always next year.

10.
58.
Dukes Stevie Johnson, WR, Bills
11.
59.
Holt DeAngelo Williams, RB, Panthers
12.
60.
Mora Dallas Clark, TE, Colts

Rank's take: If Holt hits with Jones and Williams (his latest pick), we could all be playing for second place, though that is a big risk. Charles got back on the right track with Maclin, and Siciliano's pick of Harvin is good, too. The true genius pick of this round was Britt, who sadly, is better than Welker and is already starting over him. That Welker pick is going to kill me.

10.
70.
Charles Jonathan Stewart, RB, Panthers
11.
71.
Dameshek Josh Freeman, QB, Bucs
12.
72.
Glazer Jimmy Graham, TE, Saints

Rank's take: Holt is like the fantasy version of Jim Fassel because he just keeps pushing the chips out on the table. He either wins this league running away, or else he flames out miserably. You have to love that kind of risk taking. I sure hope that Glazer is in my division with picks like this. Oh, and somebody tell Mora that his running back is going to be spending some time in jail. That said, Jackson is highly underrated this season. It may not wash off the stink of that Welker pick, but Jackson becomes the flex starter most weeks.

10.
82.
Dukes Austin Collie, WR, Colts
11.
83.
Holt Mike Thomas, WR, Jaguars
12.
84.
Mora Santana Moss, WR, Redskins

Rank's take: A lot of smart picks here. Pettigrew was a good selection. Mora getting Moss was solid. Charles and Holt again are just making smart picks now. If Hightower could get enough carries, that could really be a steal. Somebody should tell Dukes that Collie is not practicing, which is what you want from a guy who suffered numerous concussions last year. For the record, Soto nabbed Stafford in the seventh - he went fourth in our "expert's" league. Should I have taken Stafford instead of Manningham in this spot? Probably, but I have resigned myself to having Eli ruin my team at this point. Honestly, I am giving up.

Charles Lee Evans, WR, Ravens
11.
95.
Dameshek Kellen Winslow, TE, Bucs

96.
Glazer James Starks, RB, Packers

Rank's take: In the interest of time, I am going to start ignoring the teams that are no longer in the race, so sorry to Mora and Glazer. Better luck next year. I should probably be put on that list, too, because I picked Eli again. This entire round should have a do-over, but Charles grabbed the potential No. 1 receiver for the Ravens. That could be good, but we have all been burned by Ravens receivers in the past.

11.
107.
Holt Kevin Kolb, QB, Cardinals
12.
108.
Mora Mason Crosby, K, Packers

Rank's take: Dameshek is really in a position to succeed, grabbing Bradford to backup Freeman. Great combination, and more importantly, he keeps Bradford away from some other quarterback-starved teams. In fact, I wanted to grab Bradford here, but was forced to go with Green who will have better numbers than Jones because of the opportunity. Kolb was another solid pick from Holt - this guy knows what he is doing. Mora on the other hand, took a kicker.

119.
Dameshek Michael Crabtree, WR, 49ers
12.
120.
Glazer Marcedes Lewis, TE, Jaguars

Rank's take: This was a great round, with a lot of good values here. Baldinger got Nelson. McGinest nabbed Ford. Soto picked Floyd. The best pick was easily Burmeister grabbing Edwards, real nice. But for all of those great picks there was one stupid pick - Gonzalez. And I was the one who made it. I guess I must have thought it was 2001 for a moment. I wish I had some excuse like I was engaging in a few "inappropriate actions" but no, I was at work. But to be honest, there is another tight end that I am targeting in the later rounds who will end up as my No. 1, but I just added a little insurance here. Still a bad move, though. Learn from my mistakes. We all have those moments. At least I did not take a defense.

131.
Holt Darren Sproles, RB, Saints
12.
132.
Mora LaDainian Tomlinson, RB, Jets

Rank's take: We will call this round "The Bengals", because there were an awful lot of handcuffs being brandished. Dameshek smartly took Tate to backup Foster. McGinest wisely took Jennings to backup MJD. But look at ol' Burmeister who took Ringer despite not having Chris Johnson (who went to Baldinger in round one). Could this start up a rivalry? Maybe, but realize that Baldy is being smart because there is no guarantee that Ringer will be the true handcuff as Jamie Harper could be the guy. I got Helu and I don't know how I feel about it.

Rank's take: Knox is one of those third-year receivers who could break out, so that is a pretty good pick. Soto went with Brown, but I like Emmanuel Sanders as the Steelers' sleeper receiver of choice. See, this is why I love doing drafts in person, imagine the laughs we would have had at Fran's expense when he chose McNabb? I would have loved that. I took my handcuff, Jones for Charles.

Rank's take: Dameshek takes Ward, but again, in situations like this, I would rather have the high-upside guy (Sanders) over the aging veteran who could be on the decline. Burmeister dropped the ball with this Williams pick. See what I did there? But I am kidding, in this round, Williams could be a good value. Hate picking a kicker too early, but for Seabass, I might let that pass. Murray is at least the second person Dukes' picked who is not practicing. But he had a track record at Oklahoma of never being hurt. Oh, wait. And I got my starting tight end, Cook. I reckon that I drop Gonzalez before too long. Hopefully I did not botch this draft too bad.

Rank's take: Bravo to Baldinger who grabbed Harper to be his handcuff for Johnson, and he is probably the better player when compared to Ringer, too. Hilarious. That's the thing, when you steal a handcuff, make sure you are stealing the right one. Really impressed with Baldinger here. If your team name is "Oh my God! They just killed Henne" then you need to at least draft Henne.
