49ers 2018 san francisco 49ers Fantasy Preview

Much like their eternal rivals to the south, the 49ers added their own young, offensive-minded head coach in 2017. While the 49ers turnaround under Kyle Shanahan wasn't as dramatic as the Rams' bounce back under Sean McVay, the offense showed signs of life – especially once Jimmy Garoppolo came aboard. Midway through the season, San Francisco swung a deal with the New England Patriots for the young quarterback then proceeded to win its final five games after installing him as the starter. There weren't any Niners players with eye-popping stats last year but that doesn't mean there were no bright spots. Carlos Hyde posted nearly 1,300 total yards and eight touchdowns along with a team-high 59 receptions to finish just outside of the top 10 among running backs. Marquise Goodwin emerged as a fantasy threat after a season-ending injury to Pierre Garcon. There are plenty of reasons why the 49ers have become a go-to for 2018 fantasy sleeper talent, including Garcon's healthy return and a key addition in the backfield.

QB - 49ers

FACT: Jimmy Garoppolo won his five starts with San Francisco to remain undefeated (7-0) as an NFL starter. He was especially hot over his final four outings, averaging 17.8 fantasy points per game – fourth-best in the league during that stretch.
Offseason Moves

The Niners were busy during the offseason free agent period but all that fantasy folks want to talk about is the signing of Jerick McKinnon. The former Viking was signed as a replacement for Carlos Hyde (Browns) and looks like a perfect fit in Shanahan's offense. The team also selected speedy Washington receiver Dante Pettis in the second round, though his contributions early on should be primarily as a returner on special teams. San Francisco also signed longtime nemesis and former Seahawks star Richard Sherman to shore up an unremarkable defense. How much Sherman has left in the tank remains to be seen but if he can approximate his Legion of Boom form, it could be a boost for the 49ers fantasy defense production.

Sleepers & Busts

It's tempting to list the majority of the Niners offensive skill players as sleepers this season with all the fantasy optimism surrounding this team. McKinnon is the best candidate for this, however, the hype train has left the station and his draft price is increasing by the day. After a strong finish to last season, Goodwin is a player who could be undervalued in plenty of drafts this year. For those seeking tight end sleepers, George Kittle is a name to remember.
