Player News

  • Ryan Moats (RB) HOU

    Updated 11/8/09 9:42 AM

Moats will start in place of Steve Slaton on Sunday against Indianapolis.

Impacts: It's unclear exactly how the carries will be divided, but Moats certainly seems like the correct play if you have both backs on your fantasy roster.

  • Steve Slaton (RB) HOU

    Updated 11/8/09 9:42 AM

Ryan Moats will start Sunday at Indianapolis in place of Slaton, who was benched last week because of fumbling problems.

Impacts: It's likely the talented Slaton will still get some touches, but he's a very shaky fantasy play until it becomes clear how coach Gary Kubiak intends to use him.

  • Devin Hester (WR) CHI

    Updated 11/8/09 9:42 AM

Hester was active Sunday against Arizona even though he was limited during the week by a sore right ankle.

Impacts: Feel free to deploy Hester, who has totaled 265 receiving yards in his last three games.

  • Haloti Ngata (DE) BAL

    Updated 11/8/09 9:22 AM

Ngata was inactive against the Bengals on Sunday, missing a game for the first time this season because of a sprained left ankle and leaving Baltimore without one of its main run stoppers.

Impacts: Ngata hurt his ankle during a 30-7 win over Denver last Sunday and didn't practice this week, prompting him to be listed as questionable.

  • Anthony Smith (DB) STL

    Updated 11/7/09 4:57 PM

The Jaguars have been awarded Smith off waivers from the St. Louis Rams.

Impacts: Smith, a third-round draft pick by Pittsburgh in 2006, has played 48 games with 14 starts for the Steelers and Rams. He has 99 tackles, four interceptions and 23 special teams tackles. Smith played two games for the Rams this season before he was waived Thursday.

  • Kendrick Clancy (NT) NO

    Updated 11/7/09 4:09 PM

Clancy was placed on injured reserve Saturday, ending his season.

Impacts: Clancy, a 10th-year player in his third season with the Saints, played in two games and was inactive for five others because of the injury.

  • DeMario Pressley (DT) NO

    Updated 11/7/09 3:45 PM

The Saints signed Pressley from the practice squad to the active roster.

Impacts: Pressley, a second-year lineman out of North Carolina State, was selected by the Saints in the fifth round of the 2008 draft. The 6-foot-3, 301-pounder spent his rookie season on injured reserve rehabbing a foot injury suffered early in training camp.

  • Jack Williams (CB) DEN

    Updated 11/7/09 1:53 PM

Williams has been waived by the Broncos, who have signed veteran Ty Law.

Impacts: Williams was a fourth-round pick out of Kent State in 2008 who apparently didn't fit into coach Josh McDaniel's future plans.

  • Ty Law (CB) NYJ

    Updated 11/7/09 9:50 AM

The Broncos have shored up their secondary with another veteran, signing Law.

Impacts: The 35-year-old Law, who has been to five Pro Bowls, gives the Broncos five players over 30 in the defensive backfield that now sports a combined 20 Pro Bowl selections. To make room, the Broncos waived defensive back Jack Williams. Law's signing also likely means reduced playing time in the nickel and dime packages for rookie Alphonso Smith.

  • Ty Law (CB) NYJ

    Updated 11/6/09 3:08 PM

Law has agreed to terms on a deal with the Denver Broncos. Carl Poston, one of Law's agents, confirmed the news Friday to The Associated Press. The agreement came after Denver's media availability and a Broncos spokesman said the team had no comment.

Impacts: The 35-year-old Law, a perennial Pro Bowl selection, will fit right in with veterans Champ Bailey, Andre' Goodman, Brian Dawkins and Renaldo Hill, all in their 30s.

  • T.J. Houshmandzadeh (WR) SEA

    Updated 11/6/09 2:49 PM

Houshmandzadeh says he's "shocked" with the fuss Seattle's making over him. The outspoken receiver said Friday he's been getting messages from former teammates in Cincinnati asking why people on and around the Seahawks have been making a big deal about his angry gestures and comments about not getting the ball more.

Impacts: Houshmandzadeh, who signed a $40 million, five-year contract in the spring, has just 35 receptions through seven games. He had 92, 112 and 90 catches in his last three years with the Bengals.

  • Kendall Simmons (G) NE

    Updated 11/6/09 2:13 PM

The New England Patriots have released Simmons, who was inactive for six of his seven games with the team.

Impacts: Simmons, 30, signed with the Patriots on Sept. 6 after being waived by the Pittsburgh Steelers. They chose him with the 30th pick of the first round in 2002 out of Auburn and he started all 80 games in which he played during seven seasons with Pittsburgh. He missed the entire 2004 season with a right knee injury and was limited to four games last year by a right Achilles' tendon injury.
