City/Region: Berlin is the capital of the re-united Germany. The German government finalized its move from Bonn to Berlin in 1999. The city was founded in 1237 near a footbridge across the river Spree. As early as the 19th century the city had developed into Germany's metropolis. Today, Berlin boasts a population of approximately 3.4 million. With the fall of the Berlin Wall, and due to its advantageous geographic situation in the heart of Europe, Berlin regained its former status. Numerous buildings and monuments make Berlin unique. The best-known sights are the Brandenburg Gate, the Reichstag and the Kaiser-Wilhelm-Memorial Church.

Amateur Football:The Berlin Adler, founded in 1978, were the first German Amateur Champion to achieve a ‘threepeat’ when they won the title in 1989, 1990 and ’91. Their first national title came in 1987. Currently Berlin has 9 amateur football teams. Top-Team is the Berlin Adler in the GFL (German Football League). Since 1996, the annual German Junior Championships are held in Berlin. In this tournament, junior teams of American football associations of each of the federal states compete against each other. In 2000 Berlin hosted the European Junior Championship, and in 1996 and 2001 organised the NFL Flag Football World Championship, which welcomed teams of 12 to 14-year-olds from 10 nations to the city.
