Analysis

Strengths

Cinder block of power and toughness. Commands the locker room and was named a team captain for three straight years. Possesses impressive upper body power to jolt blitzers trying to sneak the A-gap on him. Uses wide, balanced base in pass sets and can anchor down against power. Has recorded 46 bench reps in offseason program. Athletic and able to get out and find targets to hit in screen game. Has feet for reach blocks. Combos up to second block with timing and fluidity.

Weaknesses

Squatty with extremely short arms. Has feet for early advantage as run blocker, but lack of length prevents securing blocks against more talented opponents. Is a one position only player on next level. Gets caught leaning and can be whipped by good arm-over.

Bottom Line

Friend's leadership and toughness are necessary traits for the center spot and his power creates some "wow" moments on tape. Friend has a shot to make a roster due to his body control and strength, but he lacks traits to fall back on if he can’t win with power against bigger competition.
