  • 9 1/2" Hands

Overview

As if facing Navy's option attack led by star quarterback Keenan Reynolds wasn't enough, defenses had to deal with Swain coming downhill at them. The 2015 second team All-American Athletic Conference pick set career highs in yards (1,023) and touchdowns (10) in his senior season. Swain wasn't a one-year wonder, though, as he had over 1,100 yards and eight scores over the previous two seasons as only a part-time starter. When not running the ball, Swain shows a willingness to bang bodies and stick on a block in the hole, so NFL teams will consider bringing him into a training camp and work with him through his military commitment.

Analysis

Strengths

Built dive back in Navy's triple-option attack. Drops pad level to bring pop behind his pads at collision point as ball carrier. Will show some late movement before contact to sneak extra yardage from his run. Not shifty but has functional movement in the hole. Launches himself into defender's thighs as cut blocker. Appears to have the stomach for necessary contact as a fullback on next level. Has chain-moving potential.

Weaknesses

Not a true lead blocker at this time. Will lower head and miss his target as a blocker on the edge occasionally. Pass protection needs work. Not a smooth runner. Runs with pronounced rocking motion as he approaches the line of scrimmage. Allows second level tacklers to be the low man too often at point of collision. Only two catches during his time at Navy.

Draft Projection

Undrafted free agent

Bottom Line

Dive back with adequate running talent who may carry some value as a fullback and a short-yardage option. Swain will need to prove that he can improve as a blocker and special teams contributor to maximize his roster value. The Senior Bowl week is a huge opportunity to make a statement for Swain.
