Draft Analysis:

  • 6'4" Height
  • 244LBS. Weight

Good recognition of open territory against zone coverage and sinks into safe spots for quarterback to throw to. Will catch and curl up to protect ball after the catch. Decent feet to make a linebacker miss in space after the catch. Will adjust his routes to traffic. Shows ability to make adjustments with body and hands to poorly thrown balls.

Would be 27-year-old rookie when the season begins. Disappointing blocker. Lacks aggressive "take on" demeanor at point of attack, and will duck his head, losing sight of his target as a blocker in space. Labors to release when jammed off the snap. Upright into his routes missing the athleticism at top of his routes to open space between himself and defender. Contested catches gave him problems.

Draft Projection

Bottom Line

Primarily a move tight end with slot tendencies in Utes' offense. Tonga lacks quickness into his routes and out of his breaks. Separation is not a strength. Without competent blocking to fall back on, a camp invite might be the very best he can hope for.
