Draft Analysis:

  • 6'4" Height
  • 265LBS. Weight

Worker-bee pass rusher who took it to his level of competition. He works hard to pivot around the edge and attack the quarterback when he smells the corner as an upfield rusher. Turns corner with tight radius and lowers his center of gravity. Has decent hands as pass rusher. Shows play strength on inside moves when he is able to stay square.

Short-limbed pass rusher with below-average height for the defensive end spot. Gets engulfed by big tackles with some athleticism. Comes down the middle as a pass rusher too often rather than playing on an edge. Clunky change of direction. Bulky, but core strength needs work. Got knocked around and thrown to the ground against Virginia Tech's left tackle Laurence Gibson. Pushed out of his gap responsibility in run game. Short-stepper who is unable to gain ground upfield off the snap.

Draft Projection

Bottom Line

Short-armed, tightly wound defensive end who doesn't show enough athleticism to be trusted as a 3-4 outside linebacker. Isn't dynamic enough as a pass rusher to fit as a 4-3 defensive end. If he could stack 'em and jack 'em as a run defender, he could hang his hat on that, but it simply doesn't show up on tape against quality opposition.
