Analysis

Strengths

Well-proportioned with a frame to add more muscle. Played defensive end and linebacker in high school, and brings that toughness to the field. Physical and confident when playing downhill. No interest in arm tackling and tries to finish with some force. Called "highly intelligent" by his head coach. Digested defensive concepts in short period of time. Consistently contained against run and squeezed it back inside. Crowded tight ends on crossers underneath.

Weaknesses

Disaster waiting to happen in man coverage. At times, sits in off coverage, refusing to move, and grabs receiver once receiver is on top of him. Instincts missing. Gets caught taking pictures in play-action, shirking deep coverage help. Inadequate deep speed and athleticism to be a factor in space. Torn ACL cost him 2012. One-year starter.

Draft Projection

Round 7 or priority free agent

Bottom Line

Inexperienced box safety with the desired toughness and willingness to mix it up. A lack of instincts and coverage ability limits what he can offer in the pros, so he must impress on special teams. Developmental prospect who might never develop the necessary safety instincts.
