2013 NFL Mock Draft
NFL Mock Draft 5.0: Sharrif Floyd at No. 1 spot
The flurry of activity over the first few days of free agency certainly has impacted the 2013 NFL Draft landscape. Several teams have elected to fill their biggest needs with wily veterans rather than unproven rookies, altering draft-day strategies around the league.
With a little more than a month remaining before the draft officially kicks off, here's another mock connecting the dots on possibilities for the first round.
With a little more than a month remaining before the draft officially kicks off, here's another mock connecting the dots on possibilities for the first round.
-
Andy Reid elected to shore up the Chiefs' biggest issues in free agency. Now he takes Floyd to solidify the front line of a defense that should rank among the elite in 2013.
-
New general manager David Caldwell has discussed the importance of building around a franchise quarterback. The jury is still out on whether or not Blaine Gabbert is that guy, but adding Joeckel will give him plenty of opportunities to make plays in the passing game.
-
The Raiders will think long and hard about Geno Smith at this pick, but the chance to land a difference maker on the defensive line leads GM Reggie McKenzie to take Lotulelei at No. 3.
-
Perennial Pro Bowl OT Jason Peters is scheduled to return from injury, but that won't prevent the Eagles from adding an athletic edge blocker with tremendous potential.
-
The release of Kyle Vanden Bosch and departure of Cliff Avril make finding a dynamic pass rusher a priority for Jim Schwartz. Ansah played well for the Lions' staff in the Senior Bowl; he could be a terrific fit as a defensive end in the team's wide-nine scheme.
-
GM Michael Lombardi quietly has retooled the Browns' defense, but finding a young, athletic cornerback to pair with Joe Haden remains a priority. Milliner is a technically sound cover corner with outstanding instincts and intangibles.
-
The Drew Stanton signing could take the Cardinals out of the quarterback market. Johnson not only fills a void at left tackle, but he would allow Levi Brown to return to his natural position on the right side.
-
The Bills might need to move up a few spots to land Smith, but this West Virginia product is the franchise quarterback Buffalo has coveted for years.
-
Rex Ryan desperately needs an explosive edge rusher to take his hybrid scheme to another level. Jones dominated the SEC with his explosiveness, and Ryan would love to tap into those skills to help Gang Green get back on track.
-
The signing of Andy Levitre to a lucrative deal will not keep the Titans from adding an interior blocker of Warmack's caliber. Mike Munchak wants to re-establish a rugged running game in Tennessee, and Warmack excels at moving defenders off the ball.
-
To get Philip Rivers back on track, the Chargers must keep him upright in the pocket. Cooper is a standout pass protector with the athleticism and movement skills to dominate in the run game.
-
The loss of Sean Smith robs the Dolphins of a big, athletic corner with range. Rhodes is not a polished product at this point, but he possesses a rare combination of size, speed and skill.
-
The departure of Michael Bennett could force the Buccaneers to add another pass rusher to the mix. Jordan is an athletic freak with all of the physical tools to be a great pro.
-
Ron Rivera has attempted to solve the defensive tackle problem since taking the job in 2011. Richardson not only addresses the issue, but he would give the Panthers their most dynamic interior defender since Kris Jenkins.
-
Mingo definitely is not a finished product, but he possesses the athletic traits defensive coordinators covet in premier pass rushers. With Rob Ryan installing a 3-4 scheme, Mingo could be a perfect fit in New Orleans.
-
The loss of Danny Amendola makes it imperative for the Rams to find an explosive slot receiver with big-play ability. Austin is a beast with the ball in his hands; a penchant for turning short passes into big gains will quickly make him Sam Bradford's top target.
-
With Mike Wallace taking his talents to South Beach, the Steelers could turn to Patterson to replace the speed, explosiveness and playmaking. The Tennessee product had only one year of major college experience, but he is one of the most dynamic playmakers in the draft.
-
Jerry Jones would love to add a versatile safety with a refined game. Vaccaro is a big, physical safety with cornerback-like cover skills.
-
A lack of speed and athleticism at linebacker has plagued the Giants for years. Ogletree is a run-and-chase 'backer with outstanding instincts and awareness.
-
D.J. Moore's probable exit creates a huge void for the Bears at the nickel cornerback spot. Trufant is a natural fit with a refined game that is built on instincts, awareness and toughness.
-
Marvin Lewis wants the Bengals to overpower their AFC North rivals behind a physical running game. Fluker is the premier right tackle in the draft, excelling at moving defenders off the ball and sealing the edges on the perimeter.
-
Jeff Fisher certainly doesn't shy away from players who play with a nasty streak on the field. Elam is not only an edgy player, but he is a talented safety with solid instincts and ball skills.
-
Following the trade of Percy Harvin, the lack of a No. 1 receiver is the biggest issue on the Vikings' offense. Allen is a big-bodied wideout with strong hands and a polished overall game.
-
Chuck Pagano must find a capable pass rusher after letting Dwight Freeney walk as a free agent. Moore's disappointing performance at the NFL Scouting Combine overshadows his production, effort and hustle.
-
The Vikings were in desperate need of pass catchers before the Harvin deal. Woods is a strong No. 2 receiver who would be a nice complementary piece in an offense that revolves around Adrian Peterson's running skills.
-
The release of Charles Woodson makes safety one of the Packers' biggest offseason needs. While Reid didn't enjoy a stellar junior campaign, he fits the profile (big, fast and physical) that Ted Thompson prefers in his safeties.
-
The Texans can't continue to ignore the No. 2 receiver position with Andre Johnson nearing the end of a spectacular career. Hopkins is a big-play threat with strong hands and sneaky explosiveness in the open field.
-
John Fox wants to fortify the Broncos down the middle. Williams is an energetic three-technique with the first-step quickness to create disruption at the point of attack.
-
The potential loss of Aqib Talib could put the Patriots back in the market for a big, instinctive cover corner. Banks was one of the best ballhawks in college football (nabbing 16 career interceptions at Mississippi State), with the size and skills to match up with the big-bodied receivers in the AFC.
-
The Falcons are pushing their chips into the middle of the table to make a run at Super Bowl XLVIII, but the lack of a consistent pass rusher could derail their hopes. Werner is a high-energy rusher in the mold of former Falcon Patrick Kerney.
-
Delanie Walker played such a pivotal role in the 49ers' offense that finding a suitable replacement could lead Jim Harbaugh to target one of his former players.
-
The Ravens are in desperate need of linebackers after Ray Lewis' retirement and Dannell Ellerbe's surprise departure. Te'o is a tenacious tackle-to-tackle defender with the savvy and moxie to step in as a first-year starter.
