Selected by: Arizona Cardinals
Round: 2
Pick (Overall): 6 (38)

Pick Analysis: Ken Whisenhunt adds talent and competition to the Cardinals' backfield with the selection of Williams. He will challenge Beanie Wells and Tim Hightower for playing time, and he gives them a big-play dimension in the running game. His production slipped during his final season due to injuries, but he was so spectacular in 2009 that this pick could turn out to be a real steal when we look back at this draft in a few seasons.

Williams has a chance to develop into an every down starting running back. Has the vision, toughness, burst, and lateral-mobility necessary to move the chains and make some big plays. However, he must do a better job holding onto the football and improve his ability to consistently contribute on third downs. Also dealt with injuries as a redshirt sophomore and currently lacks some bulk of a typical load-back. Effective one-cut runner who explodes through the first level and can make people miss in space. Runs hard and falls forward. Williams still has some work to do leading up to the draft but could sneak into the first round.

Williams runs with a lot of energy. Has great patience and vision. Possesses enough burst to get through the hole. Excels as a one-cut-and-go back. Runs low and hard, breaks tackles. Creative and very elusive once he gets to the second level. Flashes the ability to be a threat in the passing game.

Only possesses adequate size and top-end speed. Could afford to put on some weight. Needs to do a better job keeping the football tucked close to his frame. Not a true power back who can push the pile. Can be a body-catcher at times. Still developing in pass pro. Dealt with injuries as a redshirt sophomore.
