Overview

Johnson had some tough luck this past season as he missed all but the first four games of the 2008 season after dropping the bar on his throat while lifting weights. He does a lot of things well but nothing really great. He runs with good vision and does a good job of pressing the hole and heading upfield with a decent burst. He runs hard and can take some hits and stay on his feet to gain positive yards after initial contact. He has a good chance of sticking with a team and developing into a quality backup.

Strengths

Johnson has an attractive blend of size and speed for the next level. Has the vision and patience to allow plays to develop in front of him. Has the balance and body control necessary to break arm tackles and gain yardage after contact. Possesses good foot agility and some make-you-miss.

Weaknesses

Johnson was never a full-time starter in college, so production level is a concern. Missed games with various injuries then extensive time as a senior due to a serious throat injury. Does not run with as much power in between the tackles as scouts would like. Will dance around in the backfield at times and get caught for negative plays.

Grade

2.9
