Overview

Ross was a productive, three-year starter for the Pirates. He has a good combination of size and strength, with average athleticism for his position. He is an average pass rusher, as he doesn't have great quickness and counter moves to pressure offensive linemen. He understands how to anchor with a natural, low center of gravity but his inconsistent pad level can cause him to give too much ground defending the run. He is a solid reactor as plays develop and feels pad pressure well to press back into his opponent. Ross has some size and natural talent to develop into a solid reserve, but he needs work with his pass-rush package and in keeping his pad level down to be a consistent contributor.

Strengths

Ross has the size you look for at the defensive tackle spot. Shows impressive natural strength when playing the run. Displays the instincts to find the football. Plays with high effort. Is an experienced player who was highly productive in college.

Weaknesses

Ross must improve his pass-rush package to play on third down at the next level. Needs to watch his pad level to become more consistent against the run. Doesn't have the range to make plays outside the box. Is somewhat of a one-dimensional prospect. Change-of-direction in space needs work.
