Overview

Ross was a productive two-year starter for the Arizona defense. He was the most active defender for the Wildcats in 2009. He has average height but is an excellent athlete with good speed and quickness for the position. He is a willing run-support player but lacks great pop and power on contact on the perimeter. He will struggle at times to ward off and shed blockers but is an aggressive player to pursue the football. He has the athleticism to be an effective man and zone coverage defender at the next level. He has good hips and can turn and run to stay with receivers in and out of their break points. Ross has the talent to contribute in the secondary as well as on special teams in his rookie season.

Strengths

Ross is very athletic with a good burst. Has the hip fluidity to stick with receivers in and out of their breaks in man coverage and the lateral agility and closing burst to be effective in zone. Aggressive player who does not shy away from contact.

Weaknesses

Lacks the necessary bulk to press bigger receivers at the next level. Limited size makes it difficult for him to get disengaged from blocks in run support. Does not consistently deliver shots and stop the ballcarrier's progress. Reacts a bit slow and can be exposed in combination schemes.

Grade

4.2
