Pick (Overall): 10 (74)
Pick Analysis: The Jaguars continue to fortify their defensive line with the addition of D'Anthony Smith. As a rangy athlete with good size, Smith is capable of occupying double teams at the point to free up linebackers to roam inside. After watching their defense fall from the ranks of the elite, the Jaguars have added several pieces to head a defensive revival in Jacksonville.

Smith has a good combination of size and athleticism for an interior defender. He shows excellent initial quickness to penetrate the line and is most disruptive when in a stunting mode. Smith can improve his ability in base schemes with better pad level and consistent effort. He has good strength but only flashes ability to hold the point versus the run. He needs improved hand use to expand his pass rush package as well as leverage blockers better versus the run. Smith is a talented player that has upside to build on as an interior lineman in a 4-3 defensive scheme.

Smith is a really impressive combination of size, strength and athletic ability and great quickness for a defensive tackle. Has been a productive performer earning all-conference recognition. Smith’s an instinctive player and only getting better with more coaching. Has been durable not missing games and playing all three downs.

Must watch his pad level and get better anchoring against the run. Will not be capable of handing two-gap responsibilities at the next level. Would like to see better hand use when disengaging from blockers. Needs to finish better and play with more tenacity and consistency.
