Matt Barkley makes fantastic impression on Arizona Cardinals

INDIANAPOLIS -- Daniel Jeremiah is in Indianapolis for the NFL Scouting Combine, checking out prospects for the 2013 NFL Draft. Here is the latest scuttlebutt from Lucas Oil Stadium.

Brooks: Bray the steal of the draft?

Bucky Brooks says off-the-field issues might be causing teams to overlook the most gifted QB in the draft: Tyler Bray. **More ...**

» Matt Barkley's drawing plenty of attention from the Arizona Cardinals. It's an annual occurrence at the combine: This week in Indy always spawns several rumors. One such rumor has the Cardinals being very interested in Barkley. I've been told this exact same piece of information from a few different sources. According to one source, the Cardinals were extremely impressed with the USC quarterback during his interview this week.

» BYU pass rusher Ezekiel "Ziggy" Ansah was the star of Saturday's weigh-ins. He checked in at 6-foot-5 1/4 and 271 pounds. His length (35 1/8-inch arms) and hand size (10 3/8 inches) were both exceptional. During evaluations in the fall, most scouts listed defensive end as Ansah's best position fit at the next level, but that thought process changed following the Senior Bowl. Several teams that employ the 3-4 defense now feel he's ideally suited to play outside linebacker.

» Is there a first-round running back? Several different executives have expressed a lot of doubt about an RB being selected on the opening night of this draft. Teams like Alabama's Eddie Lacy, but they aren't in love with him. One running back to keep an eye on is Clemson's Andre Ellington. He's one of my favorite players to watch in this draft class. It wouldn't surprise me if he ended up climbing his way into the top of the second round.

» Malliciah Goodman wows scouts with one measurement. It doesn't take much to create some buzz at the combine. Yesterday, there was considerable talk about the freakish paws of Goodman, a defensive end out of Clemson. Scouts measured his hand size at 11 inches. To put that in perspective, take a piece of paper and lay it horizontally. He can stretch his hand across the entire piece of paper!

» One position group that is sure to impress. The offensive linemen put together an outstanding workout Saturday. I would expect the same from this defensive line group, which hits the field on Monday. Several different scouts mentioned that this was one of the best-looking DL classes they've seen here in Indianapolis. This is shaping up to be a "big boy" draft, and I expect the first round to be littered with linemen and very light on skill players.
