Shawn Powell
P Florida St.
- 6'3" Height
- 33" Arm Length
- 248LBS. Weight
- 9 1/4" Hands
Overview
Powell is in contention with Drew Butler of Georgia to be the top punter in the nation, although Louisiana Tech's Ryan Allen won the Ray Guy Award as the nation's top punter during the 2011 season. He has incredible leg strength, gets the ball high in his kicks, and can place it within the 20-yard line consistently, all of which are key attributes when assessing NFL transferability. Look for him to possibly be selected in the late rounds to a team looking for a franchise punter.
Analysis
Strengths
Powell has a serious leg and can consistently kick it deep. He has impressive size for a punter. He booms it with ease and has a consistent, comfortable two-step kicking motion. He gets the ball up and out quickly and really has great hang time, a major trait to possess at the NFL level. The second-most important trait, ball placement, is one that Powell has in his repertoire as well, and he can consistently place it within the 20-yard line.
Weaknesses
Although he has a good frame, Powell is not really a candidate for fakes and could be a liability being the safety man in coverage.
