Overview

Allen has the frame and athleticism to make a roster as a backup 4-3 defensive end or outside linebacker in a 3-4 front. Some potential to start down the line if his pass rushing upside can be realized and overall instincts improve. Currently flashes good burst off the line and active hands but doesn't consistently get to the quarterback. Sounds against the run. Holds outside contain, keep blockers off his body, can maintain two-gap integrity and occasionally make plays in pursuit. Has some athleticism to drop into coverage but more development is needed. Allen could sneak into the mid rounds.

Analysis

Strengths

Allen is a great combination of outstanding size and good speed for a 4-3 defensive end or 3-4 outside linebacker. Flashes the natural tools to get to the quarterback. Sets the edge with his length, can shed blocks and is a sure tackler. Shows the ability to crash down the line and make backside plays. Good motor.

Weaknesses

Production and technique while pass rushing aren't where they need to be. Doesn’t always get the edge. Struggles when initial burst is stopped - doesn't have natural counter moves. Occasionally gives up backside contain too quickly. If deployed as a 3-4 OLB, won't matchup favorable in man coverage.
