Overview

Overview

Reliable punter who has flashed leg strength, accuracy, height, and the overall athleticism required to make an NFL roster. Though he hasn't been blessed with the quality of special teams' coaching of the BCS programs here, Tolson's raw skills were intriguing enough for him to be among only six punters invited to the Combine.

High School

Three-time all-state selection at Canyon Creek Christian Academy in Richardson, Texas ... played for head coach David Hall ... three-time all-district choice ... all-city, all-county and all-area as a senior ... handled punting and placekicking duties ... preseason All-America choice ... also saw time at wide receiver and strong safety ... averaged 44.1 yards per punt during senior campaign ... blasted career-long kick of 74 yards ... nailed 90 percent of kickoffs for touchbacks ... converted 12 of 16 field goal attempts as a senior ... drilled career-long 53-yarder ... registered 17 career interceptions ... established school records for longest punt and longest field goal ... also set school standards for seasonal punting average, touchbacks and field goal accuracy ... career record-holder in interceptions and field goals (31) ... listed 53rd on Dallas Morning News' ranking of Top 100 area recruits ... lettered twice in basketball, once in baseball ... shooting guard on hardwood, shortstop on diamond.

Analysis

Analysis

Positives: Good build and overall athleticism for the position. ... Played quarterback and safety in high school in addition to punting. ... Quick to secure the snap and punt the ball, Tolson only takes two steps before getting the kick off and did not have a punt blocked during his Army career. ... He flashes good leg strength, and although Army didn't ask him to directional punt much, he shows good accuracy in dropping punts inside the 20-yard line.

Negatives: Only marginal hang-time. ... Struggled to get punts off as fast against a steady wind throughout his career, a problem that arose while at the Texas Vs. Nation game.
