Overview

Rutland has the size you're looking for plus enough athleticism to make it in the league as a backup corner who can contribute on special teams coverage units. Shows pretty good overall instincts in coverage and can jump some routes but will stray away from his responsibilities in zone coverage at times. Does a good job shadowing short routes with good lateral quickness and short-area speed but loses some when asked to flip his hips and chase vertically. Has solid hands and ball skills. Is willing to help out in run support but needs to be more physical and get off blocks. Rutland's a late Day 3 prospect.

Analysis

Strengths

Rutland has great size for a corner coupled with enough speed. Understands route concepts. Possesses good acceleration and closes quickly. Can mirror receivers on underneath routes. Has good ball skills and takes direct routes to the football. Reads and reacts to running plays quickly. Hard-worker.

Weaknesses

Has a tendency to roam out of position in zone coverage. Not very effective when in press-man coverage. Displays some hip-stiffness when turning to run and recover. Can be boxed out by physical receivers in jump ball situations. At times, gets engulfed by blockers in run support.
