One tough hombre, willing to take the ball as many times as needed to get the job done (averaged 24.5 carries per game in 2007). A three-time first-team All-MidAmerican Conference back, McRae is used to carrying the load. Being "the man" in a MAC offense is much different than being one in the NFL. However, he should at least be a solid backup in the league for some time because of his all-around skills.

Positives: Good combination of strength and speed. ... Rarely gives up on first contact, keeping feet moving and his pads low. ... One-cut back who can plant and drive. ... Can also hit a seam and accelerate to a second gear. ... Strong running between the tackles, but also shows the vision to take the ball outside. ... Can avoid a penetrator in the backfield and accelerate quickly. ... Nice stiff arm. ... Hard to stop when he sniffs the goal line (19 touchdowns in ?07). ... Durable enough to carry the ball 20 times per game. ... Good hands out of the backfield (29 receptions from 2006-07). Negatives: Does not possess breakaway speed. ... Lacks great elusiveness and quick feet in the open field to make the first man miss in the hole. ... Not big enough to bull over pro linebackers and safeties as he did in the MAC. ... Needs to improve pass protection to be an effective third-down back, as he does not keep his feet long enough to hold off oncoming blitzers.
