Analysis

Strengths

Should post eye-catching timed speed at the NFL Scouting Combine. Former cornerback with natural footwork in coverage for a safety. Able to line up over slot and cover in man. Has closing burst on receiver after the throw. Speed offers him ability to get to perimeter and chase down running back in space. Maintains decent awareness between receiver and quarterback. Has the juice to recover when beaten over the top.

Weaknesses

Slightly built. Failed to win position outright after transferring to Mississippi State. Slow to process correct run-support angle. Will throw body blindly at a pile or dive low on ball carrier, missing his mark. Lacks instincts necessary to consistently make plays on the ball, relying simply on speed. Difficult to trust him as a "last line of defense." Teams expressing concern regarding November arrest on burglary and domestic violence charges. Cox pleaded guilty to misdemeanor charge of trespassing with domestic violence charge being dropped at victim's request.

Sources Tell Us

"We have him as a draft reject based on character and his overall tape." -- NFC East scout

Bottom Line

Cox used his speed to dominate at the JUCO level, but he wasn't able to post the same level of production while at Mississippi State. Cox doesn't show much anticipation in the run or passing games and doesn't have the frame or functional level of physicality teams look for from their safeties. While he is expected to post some big numbers at the combine, the tape isn't as kind to him.
