Overview

Johnson's could provide depth as reserve safety at the next level. Does not have the size / speed measurables or great natural instincts to become a starter. He can run with receivers in man coverage but is a liability in zone. Will vacate deep zone for underneath routes and give up big plays. Does not anticipate routes or make many plays on the ball. Will help out in run support but is slow to get downhill and does not possess the ability to consistently shed blocks near the line. Johnson's a potential late-round pick or free agent pickup.

Analysis

Strengths

Johnson holds up well in man coverage for a safety. Can run with slots and has the athleticism to mirror and shadow routes. Acts as a coach on the field and will line up his teammates. Willing to help out in run support. Possesses good intangibles.

Weaknesses

Has below average size and only adequate speed. Does not exhibit good awareness in zone coverage and can give up the big play over the top. Does not diagnose run quickly enough. Has difficulty getting off blocks and isn't comfortable in the box. Ball skills are not adequate.

85-95 Immediate Starter 1st An impact player with the ability/intangibles to become a Pro Bowl player. Expect to start immediately except in a unique situation (i.e. behind a veteran starter).
70-84 Eventual Starter 2nd-3rd A quality player who will contribute to the team early on and is expected to develop into a starter. A reliable player who brings value to the position.
50-69 Draftable Player 4th-7th A prospect with the ability to make team as a backup/role player. Needs to be a special teams contributor at applicable positions. Players in the high range of this category might have long-term potential.
20-49 Free Agent UDFA A player with solid measurables, intangibles, college achievements, or a developing skill that warrants an opportunity in an NFL camp. In the right situation, he could earn a place on a 53-man roster, but most likely will be a practice squad player or a camp body.
